PART ONE OF FOUR: Defend Forgotten America Launches Video Series on the Importance of Provider Taxes in Protecting Rural and Small Urban Hospitals

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Defend Forgotten America (DFA) today launched a four-part video series examining the vital role provider taxes play in supporting rural and small hospitals and maintaining access to care in underserved communities.

The series builds on DFA’s recent analysis, which found that debates surrounding provider taxes often overlook a crucial fact: Not all provider tax models are the same. While some national analyses focus mainly on statewide systems, locally structured provider tax programs have helped stabilize struggling hospitals, support healthcare services, and strengthen rural communities across the country.

“Rural and small urban hospitals are often the backbone of their communities, providing essential care and supporting local economies,” said DFA Founder and CEO Jenn Pellegrino. “This series highlights why policymakers should recognize the success of locally designed provider tax models that are helping keep hospital doors open and healthcare accessible for families who need it most.”
